In case any of you out there are wondering my method of selecting these PPVs, I found a site online that will pick a random PPV for me to watch on the network. By the way, thanks for reading these, its appreciated. But when I saw the WCW PPV pop up on the screen, I groaned, and dreaded watching it. I to this date haven't seen a WCW PPV that was really outstanding. I know they weren't known for their PPVs really, but still. I actually debated after watching this if I even wanted to write a review, because I didn't want it to be just totally negative.. But I put three hours into watching it, I'm going to review it!  The main storyline is Hogan vs. Flair in a cage and they announced it was going to be a first blood match on their website before the PPV. I guess it was too hard to announce that on Nitro?

Billy Kidman (c) defeated Mikey Whipwreck
- For the cruiserweight championship, it seemed like WCW was really high on Kidman at this point in time. He takes on Mikey Whipwreck of ECW fame and I'm sure that Mikey Whipwreck has had some pretty good matches in his day, but this wasn't one of them. There were some cool spots in the match, but everything seemed pretty slow, and they were just going through the motions. There was a good spot where Whipwreck was on the outside and Kidman was leaning against the barricade and Mikey jumps and Kidman moves out of the way, Whipwreck then clears the barricade and flips, and lands on his back. That was brutal. I expected more from this to be honest. But Kidman wins with the shooting star press. To think that this may have been this shows peak...

Stevie Ray defeated Vincent
- This was a Harlem Street fight for the control of the nWo black and white. Okay, I know Stevie Ray is Booker T's brother, but who is Vincent? He kind of looks like Virgil to be honest! This was forgettable and lame. I don't even know what to say about this. Nothing of note happened here, Stevie Ray wins the match when Vincent goes to use the "slapjack" (some leather thing) but Stevie Ray hits Vincent with a low blow. Stevie Ray pins him with the pedigree. I didn't know that Stevie Ray's finisher was that. You learn something new everyday. WCW isn't really my strong point when it comes to knowledge of wrestling history. Usually I'm pretty solid on everything else.

Kevin Nash (with Lex Luger and Miss Elizabeth) defeated Rey Misterio Jr.
- Oh come on, don't make me watch this. So Mysterio doesn't have his mask on and I'm sure the WWE would love to erase all this footage from history or edit in a mask! Mysterio tries his best to bring down Nash, but Nash is too much for the little guy. Apparently Rey Mysterio got a win against Nash on a Nitro or something and that is how this match was set up? That shocks me. So after Mysterio gets some offense in to try and chop down Nash, he just eats a Jackknife and loses. Now it must have been hard for Kevin Nash to hit the Jackknife on Mysterio since he is so little. You would figure it would be insanely easy to screw it all up dont you think? That's one long fall for Rey to take also. Anyways, this match was stupid.

Jerry Flynn defeated Ernest Miller and Sonny Onoo
- Who the heck is Jerry Flynn? I'm not too familiar with Ernest Miller either, but atleast I have heard of him. So apparently on Thunder, Miller and Onoo chopped off Jerry Flynn's pony tail and that set up this match. Which is a handicap match and again it was HOT GARBAGE. Just slow, never really took off, and that seems to be the running theme in all of these matches so far. It wasn't given much time, although I don't think I could have really stood to watch this one go any longer. The match ends when Flynn hits a lateral press on Sonny Onoo and covers him for the 1,2,3, Miller broke up the count though but the ref rang the bell anyways. What the hell? I don't know if that was a screw up or part of the storyline, but it was junk. I really want them to give me something nice to say about this PPV, but they aren't helping me out at all.

Hak defeated Bam Bam Bigelow and Raven (with Chastity)
- Okay so for those of you who don't know and I didn't know this before watching this PPV, Hak is Sandman. This was a triple threat falls count anywhere match with all former ECW guys. Chastity rolls out a bin full of random weapons and they all get used in the match. All this match is, is constant weapon shots. One after the other, using everything but the kitchen sink. If you like that sort of thing, this is probably your match, but to me this was bad. This isn't even hardcore wrestling really, this is just hitting people with random objects. I guess WCW was probably trying to capture ECW's audience somewhat at the time judging by all the former ECW talent on this card. But they were going about it in the wrong way if they were, this just reeked. So the Sandman... excuse me.. Hak wins the match when Chastity turns on Raven by blasting him with the fire extinguisher. Two thumbs down.

Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko defeated Curt Hennig and Barry Windham (c)
- Benoit? Malenko? Hennig? This was for the tag belts. Those three will save this PPV from mediocrity right? Too me this fell flat on its face. Did I mention it was a lumberjack strap match too? So all the lumberjacks had straps. Arn Anderson gets his seperate entrance after all the other lumberjacks come out. This was during that whole new four horsemen thing right? Maybe I'm being too hard on this PPV, but I did not enjoy this either, and thats weird considering the talent that was in the ring. The only thing I can really say is that did a good job getting the gimmick of the match over with the straps, they utilized the people on the outside very well and often. The match ends with Chris Benoit hitting the diving headbutt onto Henning for the win. New tag champs. I guess out of all the matches this was the only somewhat decent match. It still did nothing for me.

Perry Saturn defeated Chris Jericho (with Ralphus)
- So yet again another hardcore match, the third one in a row. I guess Saturn was wearing a dress for most of the year during this time. Its not hard to imagine that this match was lame. Because it was a dog collar match and it seems whenever they have a match, with a few exceptions, where the two wrestlers are tied together it usually ends up being a stinker. As talented as both of these wrestlers might be, they couldnt really over come it. I would like to see them one on one with out it though, maybe I'll go youtube that instead of watching the rest of the PPV. Jericho would be gone shortly after this though. This match was another let down, noticing a theme to this? Now that I think about it, I'm being to tough criticizing them for having so many hardcore matches, that is kind of the gimmick of the PPV. But why not make them all that way then?

Booker T defeated Scott Steiner (c) (with Buff Bagwell)
- This was for the TV championship. Its odd seeing Scott Steiner when he was pretty mobile and young! So this match was decent, compared to the rest of the show anything decent looks like the greatest match of all time. Not much to say about this match to be honest with you. But Booker T wins it when Buff Bagwell brings a steel chair in the ring and swings it at Booker, but Booker ducks, and Scott Steiner eats it. Cliche spot. Booker kicks the chair back into Buff taking him out and covers Steiner and wins the belt. Yawn...

Ric Flair defeated Hollywood Hogan (c)
- So see if you can keep up with me here with the stipulation on this one. Its a Hardcore First Blood Barbed Wire Cage match where the cage has no door. So I guess who ever wins this one gets permanent control over WCW, so they both duke it out in the cage for that burden. So they go back and forth and Flair has made it clear to the ref before this match that first blood means fully bleeding, not just a nic or scratch. At one point in the match Flair gets a cut on his eye that is bleeding, but that isnt enough to stop the match, Hogan takes some barbwire off the top of the cage and grinds it into Flair's cut. So a good portion of Flair's face is covered in blood, and now we are left to wonder why the match hasn't been stopped. The announcers were kind of confused too. It was funny, Hogan goes for a leg drop, hits it, then a cover. The ref doesn't count. Hogan gets up and yells at the ref for not counting. Why didn't he yell at the ref for not giving him the win already? Flair's face is covered in blood! So Flair gets some knucks some how and blasts Hogan, Hogan blades so now they are both bleeding. After alot of BS happening on the outside with David Flair, Torrie Wilson, and Arn Anderson, Flair gets the Figure Four on Hogan and the ref hits a fast count for some reason and Flair wins the match. WHAT A MESS. They announced the first blood stipulation, then didn't enforce the rules through out the match, then some how the match ends in a pin, when earlier in the match the ref refused to count for Hogan. This makes no sense and it caps off a crappy PPV. I can't believe something like this even exists, like who in their right mind thinks its a good idea to put this kind of stuff out there?

I'm so glad this PPV is over. I strongly considered not reviewing it. But its bad. You keep looking for that bright spot and waiting and waiting for it but it never comes. This seems to be a theme with all the WCW PPVs I watch. Maybe I'm not watching the right ones. But save yourself some time and do not give this one a shot. It's junk. I still cant get over how dumb the main event was.. WOW.

1/10

Main Event

This PPV was just before WCW went on a re-branding mission. They changed the companies logo & the Nitro titles to try and fix the problems. It would take a little more than a new logo to dig them out of their hole. I think WCW was done by this point, they weren't going anywhere. Hogan/Flair still on top like they were 5 years prior. The reason Charles Robinson was helping out Flair in that match was because Flair was in charge of WCW and told Charles to bend the rules if Flair was in trouble. Then he got known as "Lil Naitch."

The following PPV at Spring Stampede had a much better line-up. Juventud Guerrera vs. Blitzkrieg in a quality high flying match. Rey Mysterio vs. Billy Kidman in another great cruiserweight title match. Then there was Malenko & Benoit vs. Raven & Saturn. This was a great match up.

The Flair thing just seemed terrible and for some reason Hogan and Flair never did well together in the ring. WCW ppvs in general are just terrible I've noticed

The quality really depends what era of WCW you're looking at. Just picking a random one is Russian roulette because you're borderline never going to find a perfect PPV.

Have a look into the 1992 era where it was stacked full of workers & technicians. SuperBrawl 2 has a very strong card.

Brian Pillman vs. Jushin Thunder Liger
Barry Windham and Dustin Rhodes vs. Steve Austin and Larry Zbyszko
Arn Anderson and Bobby Eaton vs. The Steiner Brothers
Rick Rude vs. Ricky Steamboat
Sting vs. Lex Luger

They follow this with Stings Squadron vs. The Dangerous Alliance War Games match at WrestleWar 92.

Then the next PPV, Beach Blast 92. You've got Rick Rude vs. Ricky Steamboat in a 30 minute Iron Man match. And the main event is Steiners vs. Miracle Violence Connection.

Whatever you do, stay away from mid 94 to mid 95. That's the period Hogan turns up and starts bringing all of his old mates in. It peaks at Starrcade 94. Your WrestleMania show for the year and this was the card.

Vader vs. Jim Duggan
Alex Wright vs. Jean-Paul Levesque
Johnny B. Badd vs. Arn Anderson (sub for Honky Tony Man who quit pre-show)
The Nasty Boys vs. Harlem Heat
Mr. T vs. Kevin Sullivan
Sting vs. Avalanche (Earthquake)
Hulk Hogan vs. The Butcher (Brutus Beefcake)

Basically am watching any PPV on the network at random for these reviews. Not just WCW. I know their are WCW ppvs with solid matches in them, but it's the abundance of crappy forgettable matches also that take away from the PPV. Seems like WCW always had a few bright spots but never really a great overall PPV. Except that Superbrawl 2 card looks really good from top to bottom.
