TNA started because WCW closed. They wouldn't have even started up without WWE buying out WCW. We probably wouldn't even have RoH.
Yes, some other companies might have started up, but we wouldn't have gotten TNA given who started it and why. It was the replacement. Just think, without WCW going bust, we wouldn't be here today talking about how TNA are going bust.
Just think, if WCW hadn't gone under then it could have been managed by Hogan just like TNA was *shudder*

I more equate to us having ROH because ECW went under.
TNA was on a upswing at one point. Their ratings were going up. But stupid financial decisions and booking decisions really crippled them and they couldn't sustain their roster and they got a huge negative stigma about them. I think if their management would have been better over the years they could been a healthy alternative. But TNA's management is so horrible as proven with this recent lawsuit with Corgan I'd say. I could talk about TNA for hours, since I followed TNA on a weekly basis until they moved from Spike TV (to be fair a little bit before they left Spike). Basically when they started really cutting expenses and became a very watered down version of what they used to be, is when I stopped watching consistently.

I was discussing with a friend the other day over a few drinks about whether TNA would even exist if WWE hadn't brought out WCW. It was a fun discussion, which the drink obviously helped with, but it did get me thinking. TNA was relatively big a few years ago before everything went to shit. People were talking about them being genuine competition for WWE and that Vince would have to up his game. All similar to when WCW was going strong.
We got to the point were if WCW hadn't gone to shit and been brought out by WWE for the talent, they were still going okay to this day, would TNA have had the chances that they've had? I was arguing that people wouldn't want to touch TNA (like they already don't) if there were two other companies ahead of them with WCW being similar in that they're not at WWE's benchmark. Why show TNA on TV when people could choose between WWE and WCW? Would TNA have even got the TV deal in the first place that helped them out? They'd be more like RoH or others smaller than them. Rosters would be a bit thinner, WCW would have the history and it would make things harder for both WCW and TNA to get talent in with wrestlers having the choice between the two when they leave WWE. They wouldn't have been able to spend the money that they have done, the X-Division might have stayed as it was when everyone loved it back when it began. TNA would likely be around, but not the TNA that we know. They could even have ended up as the lovable smaller fed like RoH that can hold it's own, not have constant struggles to stay afloat and pay staff.
Mainly though, my point was that I believed that TNA was born out of WCW dying in order to give fans an alternative to WWE. Without WCW dying, I don't think TNA would have even started. I mean, it all started with Jeff because he wasn't happy with WCW ending, right?
My mate argued that TNA would have done as well regardless of whether WCW were still around and would have come about regardless, pointing to the numerous feds that have come about since 2002. He thinks that Jeff would have eventually started his own company anyway, or that someone else would have wanted to get in on the wrestling action and start up a new show. Absolutely adamant that if WCW were still around today, we'd be talking about WWE and the two pretenders, not WWE and the dying TNA who tried too hard.
