This weeks Lucha Underground was Aztec Warfare II and it was OFF THE CHARTS! Aztec Warface is a 20 man Royal Rumble type match but you have to pin/submit your opponent in the ring to eliminate them.

Going into the match, Fenix has only just won the Lucha Underground title from Mil Muertes. Muertes' manager Catrina and interim manager of the Temple tried to fuck Fenix over by making him no.1 in Aztec Warfare and Mil Muertes as no.20.

There was so many great parts to this show. The surprise entrants worked really and got the crowd rocking. The action and spots were as crazy and inventive as usual. Aerostar at one point hit a top rope Canadian Destroyer on Jack Evans to eliminate him. They have been teasing and working on the MATANZA story since the end of season one, so it was cool to see the pay-off. The guy who plays him is an Olympic wrestler so he was doing a lot of suplexes. To eliminate Joey Ryan he did 3 Gutwrench Suplexes where he kept the grip and rolled through on them. The match was well paced and booked brilliantly. Storylines were closed whilst they opened the door to fresh ones, supposedly this season really hits a new gear post Aztec Warfare.

It definitely was fantastic, mantanza really makes me think he is a huge threat to Mil muertes and/or pentagon and I think he'll be booked as the monster that can't be knocked down, and his weakness is that he doesn't know what to do when he finally is stunned...i'm certainly intrigued by the new direction they're taking and how they're moving the title around so quickly.

Yes, yes you should hahahaha!

Also, forgot to mention how awesome it was with the Vampiro tease during the countdown, culminating with the slap from Catrina. Very well done there!!

Just an update of where I am right now. I just finished the first Aztec Warfare episode! What I can say about this promotion, is that damn is it fun to watch! From what it sounds like it just gets better from here on out. I love Matt Striker on commentary, shame that those skills were muffled by the WWE.

I'm halfway through season one and I have mixed feelings on this. I'm sure it all picks up. But some of it really really is exciting and some of it doesn't really excite me at all. It is really really corny sometimes. But some of the matches are insane! So far my top 5 would have to be.

1. Johnny Mundo
2. Fenix
3. Drago
4. Prince Puma
5. Ivelisse

Ivelisse was the girl I think who did Gut Check with TNA against Lei'd Tapa and was clearly the more talented performer. Still TNA took Tapa.. smh.

Better than Essa

You're right about Ivelisse. She was in NXT for a while, blowing everyone away, but was released because she had an "attitude problem." She went to TNA and they wasted her too, so she went to Mexico.

She seems like a feisty woman. I just remember in the gut check match Lei'd Taps being green as hell and they never used her. Ivelisse looked like she could jump right in and hang right away.

Anyways, it's probably going to take me an eternity for me to catch up to the present. Makes you wonder if I should even bother try and just skip forward?

So far I do not like Mil Muertes. He just doesn't tickle my fancy.

Keep going with it. The first season is a lot better than the second anyway.

Lucha Underground this week was a beautiful thing.

A nun-chuck tag team match between PJ Black & Jack Evans vs. Drago & Aerostar. Sounds ridiculous but all fits into the story they have going on. Spectacular highspots, entertaining action & engaging crowd.

Then there was a 6 v 6 tag team match. The winning team would go on to face each other next week. Then the winner of that, would face the Monster Matanza at Ultima Lucha II. The match was a barrage of highspots mixed with angles due to heels/babyfaces being in mixed teams. Those stories should play a part in who faces who at Ultima Lucha.

Ultima Lucha Dos is shaping up to be an amazing event. Three shows starting next week. Card is as follows.

4 A Unique Opportunity Match
Cage vs. Texano vs. The Mack vs. Son Of Havoc

Dario Cueto announced this match at the end of the last show. The winner of the 4 way will get a special opportunity from the owner of Lucha Underground.

Death Match
King Cuerno vs. Mil Muertes

After Cuerno stole Murtes at the conclusion of the Graver Consequences match. Muertes wants redemption as Cuerno left him to die in a glass box.

Dream Match
Prince Puma vs. Rey Mysterio Jr.

Puma wants to know how good he is, so called out Rey Mysterio to see if he could beat the king of modern lucha.

Grudge Match
Black Lotus vs. El Dragon Azteca Jr.

This is probably the longest build wrestling has seen in years. It goes back to the first scene in Season 1. Black Lotus who's Angela Fong from ECW has been appearing in vignettes since late last year. Dario Cueto has told Black Lotus that El Dragon Azteca Sr. killed her parents. Black Lotus killed El Dragon Azteca Sr. Although she has told Azteca Jr it was the monster Matanza Cueto who killed his father. This match will either be really good or really bad. It depends how Fong will cope wrestling a male luchador.

The Baddest Bitch In The Building
Taya vs. Ivelisse

Two luchadoras in a grudge match to find the alpha female in the Temple.

Gift Of The Gods
Sexy Star vs. Daga vs. Sinestro De La Muerte vs. Marty The Moth vs. Mariposa vs. Killshot vs. Unknown Entrant

Elimination match where the winner gets the Gift of the God's title and a chance at the Lucha Underground Championship.

Trio's Championship
Aerostar, Fenix & Drago vs. Johnny Mundo, Jack Evans & PJ Black

Lots of interweaving rivalries here. Fenix was originally with Evans & Black before Johnny Mundo beat him up so he could join their team and win the Trio's titles. Aerostar & Drago have also been had their grievances with Evans & Black too.

Lucha Underground Championship
Pentagon Jr. vs. The Monster Matanza Cueto

After losing in his first title match, Pentagon has rehabbed and clawed his way back up to contention. No stipulations have been announced but Pentagon will have to fight dirty to win.

So Part 1 of Ultima Lucha 2 was dedicated to the 4 A Unique Opportunity Match.

It wasn't a 4-way match as I originally thought but a mini tournament.

The matches were The Mack vs. Cage & Texano vs. Son of Havoc. The winners would face off with each other to get the unique opportunity.

The Mack vs. Cage was an entertaining Falls Count Anywhere match. Lots of weapons were used, The Mack did a Frog Splash off the balcony through Cage who was lying on a table.

tumblr_o9xxlrTOer1s05wxzo1_400.gif

Mack was channelling his inner Stone Cold with a beer bash.

dBzGzO.gif

Cage tried to repeat the finish of Ultima Lucha 1 by curb-stomping Mack's head through a breezeblock, but he slipped on the beer and Mack just held him down long enough to get the win.

Texano vs. Son Of Havoc was made into a Bar Room Brawl. They were using fire extinguishers,

tumblr_o9xxnqmrGU1s05wxzo1_400.gif

beer kegs and Texano got backdropped through the bar. Son of Havoc dropped Texano on a box of crushed up glass for the win.

tumblr_o9xxqjP4v01s05wxzo2_400.gif

The final was Son of Havoc vs. The Mack in another Falls Count Anywhere match. It would have been better if they did a Ladder Match or something different than repeat the stipulation from the first match. The match was decent enough but not a patch on the first two and I was waiting to find out what the prize was.

Son Of Havoc won and Dario Cueto came out with two briefcases. Son Of Havoc could choose between $250,000 or a shot at the Lucha Underground title at Ultima Lucha Tres. SOH went with the title shot but Cueto threw a curve ball and said to get the title shot he had to beat one more wrestler. If the unnamed wrestler won, he would get the $250k.

Out comes super agent Famous B with his latest client. Mexican legend, Dr Wagner Jr!

Son Of Havoc was doing well for himself until he missed the Shooting Star Press. Wagner Jr, picked him up and hit the Doctor Driver for the winner.

tumblr_o9xxrwvNDX1s05wxzo1_400.gif

The Doc moved well and looks great for a 50 year old.

Famous B ended the show looking for a heartbeat and being very happy that he's finally got a profitable client.

I'm still on season 1, taking a while to get through it. Started watching it again lately and am enjoying it more than I have in the past. Some of there matches are just absolutely insane. But the wrestlers all look to be really motivated and give it their all.
