So potential spoilers ahead. Can't be assed with the spoiler tag as it'll disrupt my flow, so read at your own peril for spoilers on Impacts that are coming soon. Maybe you don't care too much though... it is TNA after all...

TNA are making a huge change to their mid card title scene. They are retiring the King of the Mountain Championship after Lashley unified the belt with the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, which should air on Impact soon. There will be a title replacing the King of the Mountain Championship though in the form of a brand new title called the TNA Grand Championship. What a shit name, just like the WWE Universal Championship.

Details are still a bit sketchy, but it appears that this new title, which will have its own lineage separate from the now defunct King of the Mountain Championship (so it's not a direct replacement), will have a few special rules.  An 8-man single elimination tournament will be happening that will feature the new rules that will apply to this title. Each match will actually be three timed rounds, with a team of judges to award the win based on points, if it goes the distance.

Kind of a cool idea, but not sold on it.

Mid Card

So, it's kinda like late 80's WCW Title matches...except now it's a mid-card gimmick??  Gotcha.  I'll take it.

First ever TNA Grand Champion - Damien Sandow Aron Rex. Man does he look different without a beard. And that name... Makes Michael McGillicutty actually look like a good name. Wonder who came up with that one.

Well his real name is Aaron so that's where that part came from as he went back to using his first and middle name of Aaron Stevens on the Indies. They probably thought Rex sounded good as they could use it like he was a king.

Yeah, I saw his real first name is Aaron and that just annoyed me even more. Just spell Aaron right and it would look better. Granted, they could have come up with a much worse name. I hope TNA book him right as he's quite good. Not sure why WWE decided to remove him from TV after he got so incredibly over.

Watched the Bound For Glory final match and that was a chore to get through.  Rex/Sandow looked like he would rather be anywhere else than in TNA. 3, 5 minute rounds of uninteresting action and in the end they went to the judges scorecards.

Didn't bother with it myself. Think the concept will work for this belt? Still not sure what I think of it, as while it's nice they're going for something different, it doesn't seem like one that would suit pro wrestling.

It can work because you can build suspense by having someone needed a pin/tap-out in the final round to win it. Like how you would in the final stages of an Iron Man Match. Or how in boxing, someone trailing on the judges scorecard needs a KO to win so they go gung-ho in the final round.

TNA will fuck it up, look at their attempt at a graphic for it. It looks like its done on MS Paint.

Rex/Sandow isn't very exciting to watch either when he's playing himself.
