Rey Mysterio Negotiating with GFW and WWE

There is a major name on the free agent market in professional wrestling, and Sports Illustrated has learned that WWE and GFW/Impact are negotiating with Rey Mysterio.

Mysterio, 42, is currently seen on El Rey’s Lucha Underground. He is signed through the end of the third season, which is set to air in September, and would then be free to work with any company after his 90-day non-compete clause expires.

There is strong incentive for both companies to make Mysterio an offer he cannot refuse. WWE needs a big Latino star, as well as a great ambassador to Latin America. GFW/Impact is very motivated to move away from Alberto El Patron and generate some positive headlines by inking the legendary Mysterio.

WWE also holds an edge with its state-of-the-art Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. Mysterio’s son, Dominick, is pursuing a career in pro wrestling, and could benefit from the opportunity to train at WWE’s PC.

The possibility also looms that Lucha Underground will swoop in with an offer to retain Mysterio, yet El Rey has yet to announce a fourth season for the show

Anyone care to see Mysterio back in WWE? I think it would be cool, it doesn't seem right seeing him in other promotions to be honest. Would be a good signing for GFW. But lets be honest. Mysterio is probably going to choose WWE over GFW, unless GFW's easier schedule is more appealing to him. Mysterio was extremely injury prone in his last WWE run, probably because of the hectic schedule.

This is very interesting. I'd love to see Rey back. I think he's unique in that he could go on the main roster or on 205 and either one would suit him well. If Mysterio picks GFW over WWE, the only real reason would be WWE wants him in 205 and he doesn't. I'll tell you this though, Neville v Mysterio is a match I'd love to see.

Hope not with WWE. Can't stand him.

I imagine he would go to GFW based on lighter schedule and I could see WWE wanting to do what with did with AA and just 205 him. GFW would offer more possibilities for him at this stage of his career.

Don't care for this news at all. Injuries have ruined him and he isn't anywhere near as good as he used to be.

I don't think they would throw a former World Champion onto 205.

I do. Rey was lost in the midcard shuffle before he left.

He won't go there. Especially if they are trying to capture that oh so important hispanic demographic!

Could easily happen. This is the company that took a jobber one week and made them number one contender the next and within a month made them WWE champion. They've also turned others into glorified jobbers to lower mid card - Mark Henry, Ziggler, etc. Could easily make Rey part of 205 without any issue.
