PlayStation 4/X-Box One

I own both consoles, the PS4 and an Xbox One. I actually prefer the Xbox One, a better system all round, online seems better, media support much better, kinect is pretty flawless so far also - I am currently waiting for 'The Evil Within' to be released 😉

I'm sure the One has a lot of cool features i'd like to get one myself sometime but for now i'm happy with my ps4 and even going back to my 360..sometimes... i'm also looking forward to playing The Evil Within... not sure if i'll be able to buy it at launch or not yet but i do plan on getting to play it soon... i'm sure it will be a decent game at the very least... the trailers look good and the director of the original resident evil game is making it.

it kinda reminds me of texas chainsaw massacre, the grudge and Saw all rolled into one.

I got around to playing this game... i don't really want to make a thread on it though... don't think we have enough interest for it just yet....
I'm only at chapter 5 or 6 right now... the game is just classic resident evil or silent hill with a little bit of clocktower thrown in... it's probably the closest we will get to the original survival horror genre... I don't really think it's that scary... especially after i have just played  P.T. Outlast and Alien Isolation... those games are more scary then this is... it wasn't until chapter 4 or so until i actually felt tense and a little frightened by what was going on in the game.

I still have much more to play and i'm not knocking the game for not being scary enough.... it's hard to be scared after P.T which is actually the upcoming Silent Hill reboot... that game is scary.

anyways The Evil Within is a very challenging game again a nice call back to survival horror's roots.... if you liked Resident Evil 1-4 or Silent Hill 1 and 2. then you will probably enjoy this game a lot.

I have a negative towards Sony right now... one thing i can say about Microsoft is whenever my 360 had a firm ware update it never shook up my console or crashed the live servers or any of that... PS4 had an update yesterday the online broke down but i don't really care because i'm more of a single player guy... what bothers is the stand by mode or now it's called rest mode is broken... seems to lock up your console and you have to power down hard or re-establish the your playstation database in safe mode... it's a lot of crap to sort out... anyways i use the stand by feature often...  especially at night i often put on netflix or something and fall asleep and my console shuts down into stand by after a bit... kinda like the power saver on previous consoles where you could set a timer for when your console is idle for long enough...

I've seen some people say they had to unplug it from stand by because it just doesn't go back on when you try to turn it on... it say's straight up do not unplug while in stand by... you can just hold the power button down for 30 seconds to a minute and then see if it fixes that way... i heard about this problem right after i installed the update so i haven't gone into rest mode at all out of fear of breaking my console or hard drive.

Sony seems to have a lot of issues when they launch something new.

I thought i'd just mention i still love my ps4. 🙂

I've heard a few people saying that the X-Box One is the better console. Can't really comment myself as I don't own either, but I think I'll be getting the One just for the Halo collection.

I won't debate the consoles again like i did years ago when the 360 and ps3 came out... i do think they are both very good consoles... i feel in the long run the ps4 will have the better and more powerful games but that could be a few years for now... and many of the big games coming out within the next 6 months are all multiplatform... both consoles really lack exclusive titles at the moment.... but i'd give the nod to the xbox for that as of right now.

either way you'll get a great console... i would still suggest a 4. but i think either choice is good.... i would love personally to just build a computer for gaming but it's just too much money for me. atleast to make top of the line.

the best part of all this... is Batman: is coming to both consoles next june.

Picked up a PS4 yesterday. Got the last of us as a download (which was taking ages to dl), and also got the new assassins creed. Wanted far cry 4, but it was sold out.

Bought a Wii console as well, with wii sports and wii fit plus.

This far, I've spent twice as long on the wii as the PS... and now I'm not home for 3 days so prob won't be playing either too much.

PS4 is decent, and the graphics are really good. Hopefully I'll actually play it...

I know it's not very convenient but when you are downloading a 50 gb game it goes a bit faster if you put the ps4 into sleep mode.

I'll try that. I've just been turning it off when I'm not playing it...

I don't know for sure that it works since we all have different types of internet and such... i've heard others claim that the sleep/rest mode does infact speed up downloads... overall sleep/rest mode is good stuff as it will also download patches automatically... more often than not i put mine into rest mode... mostly because as i've mentioned in the past i'll end up falling asleep watching netflix or whatever and it just shuts down after an hour being idle.

also i want to point out that right now i think sony is having download issues because they had a big software a couple months ago and it messed a few things up including download speeds i think... before that update i was downloading huge files in a matter of 30 minutes or less... now it might as well just set up a huge download before i go to bed.

also i really wish i had a Wii U... i miss what i grew up with. 

Don't obsess too much over the Wii U. It's not bad at all, but really nothing too special. Mario Kart 8 is great, I'm sure the re-re-re-re-rehashed Mario side scrollers are pretty good too, but blah. It's a lot of money for the same old same old.

Yeah i try to remind myself of those things so i don't feel that  bothered but it's been a while since i've played a new Zelda and Metroid game... so maybe when those come out i'll be more interested... so far a zelda game is planned but nothing on metroid... i've skipped a lot of zelda i think the last one i played was either phantom hour glass or twilight princess.

You should consider looking at that Link to the Past remake, it was pretty good. I didn't like Skyward Sword too much though, it got very repetitive. The new one looks amazing, and Hyrule Warriors looks pretty good too. I'll have to get both of them.

I didn't know anything about a remake of A Link To The Past. That's a big deal to me as that game is probably my favorite Zelda game. i played it so much as a kid and into my teens and even came back to it again about 8 or 9 years ago and played it flawlessly and found every heart again like it was total recall.

Mine too, it's amazing. It's called A Link Between Worlds and uses the same map but adds a 2D power to move between worlds instead of the mirror. I wouldn't say it's as good as the original, but it's still really good.

I looked into it and found it came out on the 3DS... i sold mine last summer with plans to eventually pick up the xl version since my hands are too big for the regular one and my index fingers cramp up bad... i tried the xl version and it fits perfect... so maybe i'll just get that instead... it's cheaper.

I want to mention a game that i talked about briefly earlier in this thread i believe.

The Evil Within. aka in japan Psycho Break.

it's a fantastic survival horror game... maybe one of the best in years... it's creepy it takes a while to figure out what the fuck is going on in all of the madness in this games world.... it plays great until about chapter 11 and 12... then they go into bullshit mode with Resident Evil 6 crap... nothing but constant shooting the monsters have guns even fucking rocket launchers... after those levels end it kinda goes back to what it was...a survival horror game.

too bad the final boss is weak as hell.

really did enjoy the game but the few complaints i have takes away the rating i thought i'd be giving it a 9/10

instead it's only a 7. 

or a 5 if you aren't into these games.

Kinda... i'd say it's more like Resident Evil 4.

Sometimes i find tough to recommend buying a ps4.... the online service PSN constantly goes down for excessive periods of time (like it is at this moment i'm posting) normally it being out wouldn't effect me much....never happened much on the xbox..  and when it did usually it didn't matter much to me anyways.

Now on PSN if it goes out then it sucks, it locks your digital downloaded games (might be a way around it i'm thinking by disabling the network but maybe not) sometimes it even will render a hard copy of a game useless if it has to connect to things online again i think you get around it by disabling the network but i'm not sure...

any dlc items? they don't work and you can forget playing online multiplayer which i'm sure is obvious.

if it didn't disable things like it does then i wouldn't care but this has been happening very frequently in recent weeks.... if i wasn't so into Arkham Knight i'd probably be screwed all that does is lock dlc skins and bonus dlc missions.

i usually switch to mortal kombat x when i'm bored but that game was digital and its locked and i'm pretty sure with that game even if i were able to get in somehow many features would not work properly until the psn network was running.

sorry  i'm not knocking the system but that stuff doesn't happen nearly as often or as bad on Xbox or PC. 

I agree with u snake. The PS network is pretty poor at times.  I've really noticed it on the gta multiplayer where I've been constantly booted, altho it was reasonably good until the latest "ill gotten gains" update, since then it's been pretty awful...

That's disappointing. I was pretty much sold on the PS4 after E3. Some amazing announcements there.

Is the PS4 online problems a deal breaker? I really am set on getting a PS4, but if it's so bad that I can't really play online the majority of the time, I might have to put it off.

Seems a lot better now tbh.  Was decent until a major gta update then just crapped out all the time. Not noticed a problem recently tho...

Yeah, after i made  that post i had one more psn outage and since then it's been pretty steady... i think Sony is becoming fully aware of these issues and plan to work on them and fix it through firmware updates.

I don't want to tell anyone to back off of PS4 cause it's a solid console and i do think its a little bit above the Xboxone not that i'm saying that console sucks it doesn't... it just probably won't seem as good in a couple years.

chux do you play online? i didn't think you did so i don't see it hurting you in anyway.

Rhys, i'll keep looking into this and see how things go, i'd prefer if we could all be PSN friends at somepoint but i won't bullshit you if it seems like the online isn't getting any better. 🙂
