Works the same as Rate-the-song. Rate from 1-10, 1 being horrible and 10 being brilliant. It's that simple. You can request one movie for the list at a time. So once you're movie goes on the Request List, you can't choose another til it's been posted as a Rate-the-movie. This rule is in place so I don't have a request list 100 films long and so no one person hogs the request list.

RTM 22: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (2010) (Reamer)

Scott_Pilgrim_vs._the_World_teaser.jpg

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a 2010 comedy film co-written, produced and directed by Edgar Wright, based on the graphic novel series Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O'Malley. It stars Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim, a slacker musician who must battle his girlfriend Ramona's seven evil exes.

It was initially planned as a film after the first volume of the comic was released. Wright became attached to the project, and filming began in March 2009 in Toronto. The film premiered after a panel discussion at the San Diego Comic-Con International on July 22, 2010. It received a wide release in North America on August 13, 2010. It failed to regain its production budget during its theatrical release, but sold better on home formats.

The film received four nominations at the 2010 Satellite Awards held on December 19, 2010 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Century City. It won in two categories; Best film – Comedy or Musical and Best Actor – Musical or Comedy for Michael Cera. The film also made the final short list for a nomination for Best Visual Effects at the 83rd Academy Awards, but did not receive a nomination.

Decent, fun little movie. I like the comic book style implemented but the movie is a bit flat overall. Cera essentially plays the same character in every movie he is in. It's not bad at all though. So it gets a 7.

3/10. I'm not sure if I'm being too generous here, because the movie was incredibly boring and pointless. The humor didn't land at all, the fights with the exes were underwhelming, and the thrown in nods to it being a comic book were pretty much "hey guys, remember this was a comic book? LOL!" I went into it hoping for good things, but it just became a tedious romp through what I can only assume was self-gratification, with the intended effect being comic nerds screeching that you just "didn't get it" if you thought it was anything less than a masterpiece. It was pretty damn bad and the only reason it gets this high of a score is because Michael Cera still hadnt gotten old yet.

A reluctant 5. I really only "fail" a film if it not only doesn't entertain me, but also is mostly forgettable. It's not. But that's not strictly a positive remark! I liked a few elements. I liked Knives/the actress. Hated Ramona. Scott just... is there. One of the million Culkins as his gay best friend... well, I remember this role for only those two facts alone. Fights... meh. Humor... meh. I like Jason Schwarzmann. Was that Anna Kendrick I spotted as Scott's sister? Been a while. I dunno what to say, really! It's not so shitty that my mind blanks when people mention it, but it doesn't do anything that gets me invested, or laughing. Argh.

Fuck it. 4.8, final verdict. Two points short of a pass, for two reasons. The first, simply for the very thing I said about it being such a middle-of-the-road affair that it was frustrating to experience, and my memory of that frustration knocks it down a peg. The second is because—seriously—fuck Ramona. I dunno if she was meant to be so unlikable, but damn. Just couldn't stand her.

6. Maybe a 7. I'll say 6. It's really not a bad film. Has it's flaws and Ramona is actually quite a bitch if you watch it paying attention to her. I've probably voted it down because I can't stand Michael Cera, but this is probably his best film. It's entertaining in a ridiculous kind of way. I might not find it so entertaining now, as it's been years since I watched it, but I thought it was okay at the time.

7. It's funny and ridiculous. They tried something different and it worked. I liked the comic elements to it. Can see why it wouldn't be to everyone's tastes tho.
